Welcome to the new and improved "Disability is not Inability" blog. I hope you enjoy and maybe feel a little uncomfortable. My aim is to get you, the reader, to just think. If only for a second.
Lets jump right in shall we?
Text Tuesdays is a weekly post on books I have read in the past, are currently reading or I am interested in reading in the future. Also any literature or articles I found thought provoking.
This week's text/book is A Disability History of the United States by Kim E. Nielsen. I'm still deep in this read and it is truly fantastic because it tells history from a marginalized perspective. Many US history textbooks of this day and age contain very basic concepts of history that don't get to the true crux of our nation.
I felt I needed to read this book to truly understand disability culture in the United States. Even as an individual who identifies as disabled I wasn't taught history from this point of view.
I highly recommend this book if you want to gain some more insight on US history. I purchased the book on Amazon for a little over $11.00.
What are some other books/literature about history told from the marginalized point of view?
